The pieces in
this choral series are written and arranged in the various popular styles
of the past. The late '60's and early '70's bring back memories
of the music of the "hippie" generation and those who followed -- folksy
and highly syncopated with lyrics characterized by rebellion, group love,
and a guest for freedom. Although choral settings, by their very
nature, can never capture the absolute authenticity of the original popular
pieces, they can capture the essence of their sound. In the '70's,
singers fell in love with choral settings of pieces written by The Carpenters,
Simon and Garfunkel, John Denver, The Beatles, and others. These pieces
spawned many originals by the choral composers of that day who were capable
of recreating the popular sound chorally and coloring it with their own
personal style. If you were alive during that time, these pieces
should push your nostalgia button. For those of you whose parents reminisce
about their music and THEIR parent's music, we've thrown in some from the 20's
and 30's just for you. Today's singers will discover the choral excitement
and beauty of these by-gone eras through these pieces. |
