Key of C
Key of F
Blessed Is the Man is presented in
two keys specifically so this excellent work by Eugene Butler may be enjoyed
by more young singers. The arrangement in the key of C provides a work
with parts written in the comfortable middle and lower areas of the singers'
voices. It is best suited for all-boys' groups and mixed groups with
younger and less vocally proficient singers. The key of F provides
ranges that will deliver a more dynamic and vocally proficiency sound.
Directors should examine both arrangements and determine the one they feel
will best suit their singers.
Check the four-part variable voicing charts
for the
key of C
and for the
key of F
to determine the voicing options with which each arrangement may
be used.
When the key of C arrangement is
performed by early adolescent all-male groups, Parts I may be
sung by Boy Trebles or Cambiatas, Part II by the Cambiatas,
and Parts III & IV by Adolescent Baritones and fully changed
voices. When the key of F arrangement is sung by older adolescent all-male groups, Part I is sung by the
changed-voice Tenors or Adolescent Baritones (8va lower),
Part II by young Basses (8va lower),
and Part III by Boy Trebles and/or Cambiatas (actual pitch)
and Part IV by Adolescent Baritones.
