Hava Nagilah

 

This traditional and popular Hebrew melody is fun to perform!  It is characterized by a chromatic motif (introduced immediately in the piano) that permeates the music and establishes its identity.  An accelerating tempo promotes the folk-dance excitement. 

The lyrics (in both Hebrew and English with a convenient syllabic pronunciation chart) have been adapted by Andy Gaus, the arranger. He provides a text to fit a sacred or secular performance context. 

This arrangement is fits a SACB choirs or older groups with more women than men, SSAB choirs. The piano accompaniment adds to the fantastic folk-dance flavor or the work.
