Reputed to be the best known of all Baroque chorales, this edition has been set
SSAB to be sung by adults with a minimum number of men or SSCB for an adolescent
group containing changing voices. The text (lyrics) of the piece has been
changed to current usage. However, if the more formal, classic version is
desired, one may change four words in the composition and walk back into the
15th century. The melodic character of chorale parts make them most suitable
when young singers are attempting to sing four-part harmony for the first time,
plus nothing is better for building good choral technique and style with young
or inexperienced singers than the chorale.
