This is a straight forward homophonic
arrangement of the hymntune known as Mendon. Most of the
background about the hymntune and text is found below. Peninger
has set three stanzas of the hymn; settings one and three are four-part
harmony and stanza two is a two-part setting written in the treble clef;
the upper part is to be sung by higher female voices and the lower one
to be sung by cambiatas and/or lower female voices. When sung by
mid-level choirs with changing voices it should be rated as
medium-difficult. It is best suited to be sung in church or at
various choral festivals or contests.
