This is a straight forward homophonic arrangement of the hymntune known as Mendon. Most of the background about the hymntune and text is found below.  Peninger has set three stanzas of the hymn; settings one and three are four-part harmony and stanza two is a two-part setting written in the treble clef;  the upper part is to be sung by higher female voices and the lower one to be sung by cambiatas and/or lower female voices.  When sung by mid-level choirs with changing voices it should be rated as medium-difficult.  It is best suited to be sung in church or at various choral festivals or contests.
