categories: hardships encountered on earth or
rewards expected in heaven. This spiritual exemplifies the former. In the 20th century, this spritual became well-known due to recordings by Louis
Armstrong and Lena Horne. It remains a poignant melody and text with which many early adolescents can empathize.
