On Independence
Jonathan
Mitchell Sewall wrote many poems and lyrics to patriotic songs. In On
Independence he defiantly, yet with devotion, captures the essence and
true fiber of the colonists as they prepare for the American Revolution.
The intriguing musical style chosen by the composer seizes the attention of
the singers. Not only will they enjoy their time with this piece but they will
learn a little American history on the side. There is only one stanza
with four parts. The remainder of the piece is mostly unison or two
parts which makes it quick and easy to learn.
