Da Pacem Domine is an easy work, but one
that sounds very sophisticated when performed. Learn the first
six measures and you have practically learned the piece.
Melchior is a genius in the way he presents those six measures
against each other. First they are set in a round at the tonic,
six beats apart. Then the round is set at the tonic against the
another round of the same six measures set at the dominant, six beats
apart. Next he sets the melody of six measures at the tonic
against itself at the dominant, but this time only three beats apart.
It closes with a resounding homophonic ending. Your singers will
love this piece.
