Saints Bound for Heaven
Three-Part
Four-Part
This energetic piece comes from the
Sacred Harp tradition (occasionally referenced as "white spirituals".)
As with many of these type pieces, the principal melody is written in the
pentatonic scale making it prime material for the arranger to write
contrapuntally. Every part in this piece is a melody. It is easy to
learn so it makes it a great piece for beginning part singers. The
arrangement has an optional Part IV allowing it to be sung as SSC or SSA or as
SSCB or SSAB. It is an excellent arrangement for church adult choirs with
more women than men. Just place the women on Parts I, II, & III (SSA) and
combine the men on Part IV which is a nice compromise part between tenor and
bass.
The
three-part
and four-part variable voicing charts
indicate how to perform the piece with different age groups.
